Emergency Services: Emergency food provided by our food bank is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through the Community Help Centre, located at 141 W. Beaver Ave.
Our mission is to provide emergency food to those in need in the State College area and to support the network of food pantries in Centre County.
The State College Food Bank has been providing services to clients since October 1982 - originally as a temporary solution to a temporary need. As the need continued, so did the Food Bank.
Every thirty days, clients may come to the State College Food Bank up to twelve times in a twelve month period for emergency food. After ten times, the client must be working with a case manager in another organization in order to continue to receive food help.
Clients receive a large supply of groceries, sufficient for about a week. The size of the food order corresponds to the number of people in the household. In addition to non-perishable foods, every grocery order includes milk, eggs, bread and frozen meat.
To receive emergency food, the client must have a referral from a referring agency. The service area is the entire State College Area School District (Boalsburg, Pennsylvania Furnace, Stormstown, Port Matilda, Unionville, Fillmore, Gatesburg, State College, Lemont, Patton Township, Ferguson Township, and Pine Grove Mills) and the part of Julian with 692- phone numbers.
Clients from other parts of the county may be served once a year if they have an emergency when their food bank is closed. (For a listing of food pantries in Centre County, see our Hunger Links page.)
The State College Food Bank consists of a volunteer Board of Directors, an Executive Director, an Ooperations Coordinator, and more than fifty other volunteers.
